Brownie
She was so happy. Her proposal had been accepted finally.
All that hard work, all those late nights had paid off.
She turned to look outside the window.
The skies did not echo her sentiments. They were the most morose shade of grey possible.
She searched for rays of sunshine, but it was as dark as the ocean floor.
All the joy left her like a punctured balloon.
She turned around to text her friend about how her best day was actually morose.
She felt horrible to always be the one who had a bad day.
10 mins of scrolling later, she realised she had nobody to say this to.
She decided to make the most of what she had.
She walked down through the now pouring rain, gingerly tiptoeing over puddles. She swore as mud got into her shoes. She felt extremely stupid for not being dressed monsoon friendly during monsoons.
This wasn't going her way. Nothing was. She had to catch herself from spiralling into another *nothing- ever- works- for me* moment. She knew those too well, and they never ended well. Except nothing was going her way.
The wind was so strong, her umbrella went from being an umbrella to a peculiar cup. She tried fixing it, only to get soaked. That did it.
She started cursing loudly. A woman who walked past her did not approve of her vocabulary at all. She didn't care.
It was all going to the dogs anyway.
She clutched her bag and tried to rush into the closest store, which was shut.
This was not her day, she looked up at the sky raining down on her parade like that.
She got to be this happy once in 4 months!
The rain slowly tapered, as her excitement trickled off.
A kid across the street was making boats in the puddles.
She wished she could be that excited about the rains.
Shivering she squelched her way to a coffee shop she had never seen before.
Tucked between shops, she had never noticed this place.
She waited for her brownie and coffee to arrive.
The women at the next table were glaring at her as she shoved bits of heaven into her mouth.
She sat there alone amongst all the couples and families, nobody to share her joy with.
Somewhere between guilt for calories and dejection though, there was joy oozing through her.
Chocolate made indulgence in a second brownie seem less of a sin.
